This weekend I watched Across the Universe. Oh man, what a shitty movie.
I feel a bit uncomfortable hating it so much, really, the same way I feel uncomfortable not really being that into Hillary Clinton being the Democratic nominee. I mean, I love both Julie Taymor and Hillary for being badass ladies in industries dominated by men, and I really loathe the sexism that abounds in criticism of them both from unforgivibly banal (usually male) pundits. And I don't want anyone else to say bad things about them, it makes me suspicious to hear someone say something even remotely fresh about them. But at the end of the day? If I am really evaluating them on the merits of their most recent work? I have to give them a thumbs down.
Hmm, is that really the way I want to get back into the swing of maintaining this weblog thingamabob? Well, yanno, I have had these random thoughts that I thought, "Oooh, I could put that on Pinktalk!" a lot, but then when I sit down to do it real quick, I think, "Oh fuck, I have to explain where I have been and that's going to be all this talky-talk drama shit, and maybe I should just wait until I have some blazingly brilliant revelation instead of just typing up some shit about how OMG, I can't help but feel that Bret Michaels is more serious about finding love than Flavor Flav, or what I thought about the adaptation of Northanger Abbey last month or whatevs." But the problem is, I am never going to come up with some brilliant thing to say, and really, it's sort of pointless to wait until then.
Here's a short list of what I have been doing since last month though: working a ridiculous lot; developing an allergy to talking on the phone; seeing my girls; knitting socks; going on trips upstate (one of which took us to the CIA, OMGz, awesome!); getting obsessed with the color yellow; watching Mr. Pink play Bioshock; eating diner food; reading those architecture-and-sex Ken Follett books even though I am completely aware that they made me significantly stupider afterwards; drinking Coke Zero (may contain crack cocaine?); going to Target to pick up cat litter, fake milk and trash bags; teasing Stephen about the Giants and then having to take it all back; planning to go places on Sunday mornings (church, the early matinee at the nice GSP movie theater, PS1) and then never getting up in time to go; enjoying garlic; trying to overcome my inertia about vacation planning; giving people advice; dicking around on Ravelry; and drinking coffee.
