More on the Thrice-Married Giuliani's latest hoo-ha.  I think my favorite part is at the end where they get a quote from that paragon of virtue, former driver-turned-police chief (is that weird to anyone else?), Bernie Kerik.  With the support of such an upright man, how can you go wrong?

In other news, there is a new strain of Ebola killing people!  As longtime Pinktalk readers know, I am fascinated by infectious diseases, particularly the kind frequently utilized as the microscopic villain in not-particularly-good  thrillers. 

And finally: if you're looking for a reason to find Manhattanites irritating, the eGullet thread about New Jersey cuisine mentioned on WNYC's Morning Edition a couple of days ago is a great place to start.  DO NOT WANT LEAVEZ MANHATTAN EVAR, OMGz!!!1111  Obviously we here in New Jersey are breathing a deep sigh of relief that we don't have to contend with these particularly pretentious fucks when we go out to dinner...

Say what you will about his penchant for totalitarianism, America's Cousinfucker (Giuliani, as he's known to some) sure is a creative fellow!  Way to hide that extra-marital affair, dude!  I mean, most guys can't even remember to get the lipstick off their collar, much less hide tens of thousands of dollars from the taxpayers.

Spent the last almost-week of silence hanging with the family.  My parents came in to town, which was great fun, and we took them to the Met and watched many hours of football and ate many piles of Mr. Pink's Sweet Potato Insanity.  It was nice!  But now I am a busy bee, prepping for a business trip for said Mr. Pink, and my own professional preoccupations.  Oh, and Christmas, which kinda is sneaking up on me.

Why is it that the day before Thanksgiving is so rife with petty annoyances?  Traffic, work-related things, the inexplicable increase of banal neo-con "give thanks for America/guns/homophobia!" forwarded emails and op-eds...why?  To remind me of how psyched I am to have 2 days to hide out at the Pink Fortress, away from all these crazies?  Well, actually, that makes sense, let's go with that. 

Happy Thanksgiving all you out there in internets-land.  It's actually my favorite holiday due to the unbeatable combination of binge eating and football, but the family/friends aspect is quite good too.  I know I often put together a thankfulness list around this time, so, here's a quickie for 2007:

Mr. Pink emailed me this NYT story from today: apparently Jets fans really are just as heinous as I thought from our experience Sunday!  Wow, how do you lady Jets fans deal with this?  And parents trying to take their kids to the game too, WTF?  So alienating and woman-hating, I am surprised that the team/stadium tolerates such misogyny when women comprise no small part of the NFL's fan base.  Jets, we're soooo broken up!

(ETA: disgust also evident here.  Also, you know, this is why I love me some Steelers so much...you know, the team that doesn't have cheerleaders because if you're looking at chicks in bikinis dance around to early 90s dance hall hitz, you're not fucking watching the game, dammit!)

Still planning your Thanksgiving Day menu?  If you're stuck for a sweet potato dish, or if you have to bring something to a family event, I give to you Mr. Pink's creation.  It was borne from some recipe on the internets he found probably 5 years ago or so, and has tweaked here and there to generally diminish its nutritional value.

Mr. Pink's Sweet Potato Insanity (serves 4 who are moderately piggish, you might do well to double it though)

Base:
1 1/2 c mashed sweet potatoes (you know, cook them and scoop them out and then mash them)
1/2 c granulated sugar
4 Tbsp melted butter
1 egg, beaten
1/2 c shredded coconut
1/3 c heavy cream
1/2 Tbsp vanilla

Topping:
1/2 c brown sugar
1/2 c pistachios, smooshed up into chunks
1/4 c flour
4 Tbsp melted butter
dash salt

Combine base ingredients & mix well. Pour into buttered 1 to 1.5 qt baking dish. Mix topping ingredients & pour over base.

Bake at 350 degrees for 20-30 min. Edges of topping should be sort of crusty but the middle might look a bit soupy -- it firms up, unless your sweet potatoes were too moist, we have found.

The Jets were the home team, but you wouldn't have known it by looking around the stadium, which was filled with towel-waving Steelers fans.

"Whenever there is a situation like that, you try to minimize the things they are able to cheer for and the amount of things they are able to wave their towels for. That is about all you can do," Jets coach Eric Mangini said.

Guess where I was yesterday!  Yeah, in the swamp watching a 1-8 team beat down the Steelers, who keep being improbably lumped in with the Pats & Indy (although a comparison to the overrated Colts is not really that far off base, is it?). 

The tickets were an unexpected late-morning windfall from my boss, as everyone who got my HYSTERICAL!!! TEXT!!! MESSAGE!!! yesterday can attest to.  Mr. Pink and I rushed out of the house with one too few pairs of socks on, I later found out, but fully decked out in our official Steelers gear and with the Terrible Towel tied to my Prada.  (OMGz, is that the first time that phrase has ever been typed, I wonder?)

Being at the game was totes awesome, but the Jets fans, oy vey.  I once knew this guy who was kind of a moron, and he was always going on about how Jets fans were horrific, slow-witted, thuggish meth-heads, as opposed to the educated, mannered, wine-sipping refinement of the typical Giants fan.  Since I lived in New England at the time, I dismissed his remarks as somewhat mysterious team partisanship (since one is AFC and the other's NFC, why not root for both, NY people?) and, you know, like I said, the guy was an idiot, so whatevs. 

But the scales have fallen from my eyes!  Holy shit, Jets fans are nightmares!  I was shocked -- shocked! -- at the behavior of the relatively few Jets fans in attendance.  (Then there's that: WTF, why there were more Steelers fans present than Jets fans??)  So I am feeling a titch bummed out that I have to hate the Jets now, on the merit of their icky fans, since I'd always been fond of them, I think because of that Brady Bunch episode with Joe Namath (who, like most football greats, including last night's game's honoree, Curtis Martin, is from the Pittsburgh metro).
