Scenes from my day in Brooklyn, all from inside Rye's apartment because goddamn, it was hot.  Despite the hotness, though, my angelic Rye made us...err, I guess you'd call them "kale pockets"?  Well, anyway, they were so great, not least because kale is one of my favorite foods evereverever.

Listening to WBAI while I was putting on my makeup this morning -- I usually can't get it in the house, so we listen to NPR almost exclusively, but the radio has recently become possessed by some odd spirit that wants us to always listen to early Michael Jackson songs, so I stumbled across the Pacifica station trying to escape "Billie Jean"!  Anyway, the point is, I heard "Waist Deep in the Big Muddy" for the first time in ages and now I am sort of feeling like I need to have an all-Pete Seeger day.  The question is, do I take my Weavers cds or my Pete Seeger cds to work today?  I don't have a big enough handbag to bring them all!

This is the problem with being kinda musically-OCD.

Say what you will about John Edwards (I rather love him, but I also love Obama and Hillary, each in different ways, OMG, what an embarassment of riches Dems have in 2008!)...this campaign video from the YouTube debates is rather brilliant from an advertising standpoint.

OMG, how did I miss this?  Fashionista posted the entire November 1992 Sassy magazine on the internets!  Internets is love!

Err, sorry for being so quiet.  I've been busy as hell, and will be for a bit into the future.  I owe about 927 people emails, but am so brain-dead that I spent my 10 minutes of recreational internets time today trying to figure out what Estuary English is (heard it mentioned on the BBC this morning) and buying a pair of Chie Mihara shoes.  But you're in my thoughts! 

If I had time, I would say some interesting stuff, no doubt, though!

Listening: Lately it's been all-Ronettes-all-the-time, but the new White Stripes pleased me greatly.  Retreading my usual summertime fare also: Violent Femmes, Pixies, the Bangles & the Go-Gos, Fountains of Wayne, the Runaways' "Cherry Bomb" over and over again, N.W.A., Liz Phair -- all played loud, with the windows down, driving on highways.

Watching: I may be the only person on the planet who really, really likes John From Cincinnati.  (My enthusiasm for hippie-religion stuff perhaps?)  Also, we saw the new Harry Potter movie (against Mr. Pink's will) and I thought it was quite well done.  Oooh, and just saw Dr. Bronner's Magic Soapbox this weekend too, which was good.

Reading: Juuuust finished Sacred Games (brilliant), am re-reading all the Harry Potter books so I am ready for the last one this weekend, and am about to start the new Murakami.

Wearing: Today?  A gray suit.  But usually, it's been loads of dresses and heels and big earrings and hair piled up on my head and a sour expression.  I am rebuilding my wardrobe with an eye to global warming, so there's a lot of focus on layering, which meshes nicely with the thermostat battle constantly raging in my office. 

Wanting: I give up, Al Gore, I want an air-conditioner!  It's not been so hot during the day, but it's so stuffy at night, it's still in the 70s, and I just can't sleep like that!  I like to be under a pile of blankets when I sleep!   Also, I want a manicure that won't bubble.  And world peace.

Eating: I have been craving fish tacos lately,  but I have a strict policy of not eating before 10am, so I am currently eating coffee and cigarettes.  Mmmm!

So, Laurel...it's a boy?  You know I have to ask, right?  Just to be sure?  Because I have that problem?  About never knowing when people are joking?  Which is also why I didn't realize you were pregnant for, like, 2 months?
