In case you needed additional proof that hiring independent contractors to conduct our wars for us is the worst idea ever: more wonderfulness from our friends at Halliburton!
I've been meaning to say, in a completely unrelated note, that I've not read many of the NYT's 100 Notable Books this year. Just the Murakami and the Harry Potter, though I am really anxious to read that Thomas Hardy biography that Santa will hopefully bring me, hint hint.
Also, and also unrelated: I really liked The Golden Compass! Speaking as someone who loved, loved, loved the books, I found the film fairly rad. Radder than expected, honestly, because you know, I always assume that film adaptations of books I adore will suck.
